A group of 16 of us met at Whitlingham Lake for a running race around the lake: 3.6 Km (2.2miles). I had reviewed the entry list competitors’ recent results and come up with a formula to stagger the start. If my calculations were correct, then an equal fight for the finish was on.
Kerry led out with the chasing pack being released at their calculated time intervals. Nigel was last off the line with an 8 minute chase to make up. Our small group of time keepers and supporters then had to wait to see who would come in as, for once, no predictions could be made on the outcome.
First to round the corner and finish was Dennis Chung, around 20 seconds ahead of Trudi in second place. The rest of the race finished within 90 seconds of Dennis so my calculations were not too far out.
The open nature of the race was something to fight for: Dennis won himself a £10 Tri-Anglia Voucher. Additionally, a post race meeting was the ideal venue to present Nigel Hodge with the 10K race series title after putting in some impressive 10K times despite some of the running conditions. Jennie Childs was awarded the best 10K improvement after cracking through the 60min barrier and then some showing a steady improvement throughout the races.
