Great Yarmouth 5 mile Series

23rd April, 7th May and 21st May 2008.

Great Yarmouth 5 Mile Series Race 1 of 3 - 23rd April 2008.

The first of the three Great Yarmouth 5 mile promenade races took place at 7:15pm on Wednesday 23rd April. The flat two lap course was greeted with almost perfect conditions - a cool dry evening with no wind. We had 6 of our members running.  Lynn Emmett being the most successful picking up two trophies, the first for being the second fastest Vet Lady (over 35) and for being one of the three fastest CoNAC ladies that won the Ladies team prize. There were 174 runners in total. The fastest was Luke Allen, CoNAC in 26:17, the slowest came home in 57:41.

Lynn Emmett commented that she was really pleased with her time which represented an improvement on last year

As it was only 10 days and 3mins after finishing an Ironman I was after an easy run - was surprised to clock 7:30 for the first mile. Was pleased to still be clocking 7:30's at the 4th, so lengthened the strides for the last.  I was also pleased that Simon Brierley followed the club rule of members introducing themselves to anyone and everyone sporting club colours.  Simon has volunteered to co-ordinate the team entries for this years National Team Triathlon Championships in August in Nottingham.  A group of us did this event last year.  It's great fun and he's already got a couple of big hitters in the form of Oliver Milk and Simon Edye interesting in making up Senior and Vets Mens teams.  If I wasn't doing the Enduroman Double Iron with Russell Clarke and Joe Skipper that weekend I'd definitely be up for.

Next Yarmouth 5 miler is Wednesday 7th May which is also a Runners Centre Grand Prix event, so should be a good one.
