19th January - UEA,52mile Dereham, Hingham, Wymondham figure of 8Route: Plan had been to ride out to Watton and stop at Lincoln's tea rooms in Hingham on the way back. When we got past Shipdham Simon Edye requested a trip to a bike shop to buy inner tubes so the route was altered to take in Paul's Cycles in Dereham and our very reasonably priced Portugese Cafe. Route back via Hingham and Wymondham. It was a wet and windy day with the wind being from the west. Glen Nelson set us into a fartlex 'intermediate sprint' game by sprinting for Barford and Barnham Broom. We then started to keep score by giving him 1 point for winning the first, 2 points for the second. Jonathan Tyrell the third, Rob Lines the fourth and Simon Edye the 5th. JT and Rob then shared the next few between them with all level pegging upto Hingham which JT got. Simon then put in a massive solo effort all the way back to Wymondham, but on our route back there wasn't another village/town sign all the way back to Norwich. Penny is far to wise to play this game. Oh, and we don't recommend this game, and if you must play it you must still obey the highway code, so don't sprint for sign's anywhere dangerous - i.e. at bends, junctions, when other traffic is about and absolutely never go 3 abreast. |
