Club Kit Update

9th October 2007

On this page you will find an update on the kit that we are bringing in for 2008.

Background

The project has been running on for a few months now.  Part of that is that we are busy and have to fit it in around our day jobs, training, family, friends and other races that we are organising or participating in.  The other part is that there are actually lots of things to consider - supplier, quality of gear, cost of gear, design, order quantity, financing of orders, range of garments available etc.

Other the past few months we have worked on a fair few draft designs, trying to use club colours of red, white, black and yellow and trying to come up with a design that is unique, distinguishable, practical for both ladies and gents, visible and most importantly something that you will all want to wear and be proud to wear.

We've also been busy talking to suppliers to get a feel for the range of garments that could be available, how much we would have to order and how much it would cost.  Clearly items get cheaper when ordered in quantity, but that has to be weighed up against what the out lay would be.  One of the things I've really been stressing is that we don't want to be tying up club funds in a stock of kit.  Club funds should be used to aid participation of our sport(s).

Latest Position

Okay, so enough background chatter, where are we at. I'm please to say that we are almost there in terms of a design and we have settled on suppliers for triathlon gear and cycling gear.

For triathlon gear we have settled on custom gear from Louis Garneau. Louis Garneau is an American manufacturer and is imported into the UK by Marple Imports.  There are several other Triathlon clubs that use Louis Garneau for Tri gear, notably Ful-on Tri, Hillingdon and Crystal Palace who all praised the quality of the kit.

For cycling gear we have settled on Kalaswear for they have an incredibly comprehensive range and have been very friendly in accommodating our desire for a range of garments to suit all tastes whilst only having a low level of demand for each item. Kalaswear have kindly offered to organise a sizing session for us which will take place on Sunday 28th October at the Whitlingham Outdoor Centre to coincide with the first of our Club 10k Series.  Kalaswear will come up with their full range of sizes for us to try on along with graphics of what the kit will look like made up in our club design.  They will leave with our initial order and deposit, which means we should then have delivery of our first order by the beginning of 2008.

Right, so where are we with designs.  The first two are the ideas that we had for cycling and triathlon gear.  The third is the latest version of artwork from Kalaswear for the Jersey's.  There's still a bit of work for them to do as they need to ensure that the design will work for all sizes across all products.

Offerings

Right so just what are we offering and how much will they be? The following table shows the current state of play with a list of the products that we are offering now for the initial order and for potential future orders.  I've also included an indicative cost. Actual order quantities might dictate that the price varies, but where possible we'll try to avoid that.
