On Saturday and Sunday 26/27 January, Tri-Anglia hosted a bicycle servicing maintenance course run by Dan Goodbourn of the The Mobile Bike Shop. 28 Tri-Anglia members attended the course for a one day workshop for which I attended the second day.
Dan and his colleague Martin demonstrated the crucial, once-a-year (at least!) procedures to do on your bike covering the brakes, gears and headset. Points of wear and tear or necessary replacements were highlighted along with the grease points and adjustments which we were then able to do on our own bikes. Nearly everyone had to replace at least a cable during the day with a few brake pads, chains and cassettes being replaced too. The day lasted from 10 till 4 pm costing £30 which is around the cost of a shop service anyway.
I thought I had a reasonable knowledge about bikes, but the course showed me several things I was doing wrong or shouldn’t do, how to do things betters and how to finally index gears!
