Weymouth Middle Distance TriathlonSun 3rd June 2007 1900m sea swim, 52 mile bike, 13.1 mile run This event represents one of the earlier longer distance events of the season. Tri-Anglia was represented by Mark Philo and Martin Stacey among the 294 starters. It was an early starter of 7:15 for Martin and 7:30 for Mark. The swim was in the calm bay of Weymouth town with a running start across the shingle into the water. Either my swimming has improved or the swim was a little shorter than advertised, but I was out of the water in 35 minutes and up the promenade steps to transition. The bike headed north to Dorchester taking in a big climb within the first five miles out of town. It was then a loop out and back on an undulating dual carriageway followed by winding roads through smaller villages back towards Weymouth, one of which was having a scarecrow display day which was rather surreal. The final part of the bike was a delicious downhill back into Weymouth town where you could just tuck in and have a rest at speed. The run was 2 loops consisting of a couple of inclines with a good outing of spectators near the beach areas. I had a great race coming in at 5 hr 9 min 56 secs, well up on my previous middle distance time of 6hr 3 min. I even felt quite good after the race and came 42/66 in the 35-39 male category. After a few minutes of rest, I heard Tri-Anglia hailed over the speaker and was able to cheer Martin across the line with a time of 5 hr 30 min 43 secs, coming 23/28 in the 45-49 category.
