Stage 15 - 2007 Round Norfolk Relay
Runner's CommentsAs this was my first RNR really I was a little apprehensive. My running hadn’t been all that it has been and I was extremely worried about letting everyone down, especially Kerry as she had put a lot of effort into getting things sorted. With this in mind I didn’t get much sleep the nigh before. I was up at 4am before the alarm went off and down stairs ready and waiting. And waiting … Eventually my mobile rings. It was Gareth informing me after boasting the night before how his car had driven to France without the smallest problem, was now having issues. He was on his way and we would make it in time. I won’t say much more through fear of incriminating him. Let’s just say we got there in time and it was jolly quick ;-) Once there, we were kept updated by Rob via mobile. As Gary started to get closer I went through my checklist and realised that, as is becoming all too common, I had forgotten something! Safety Pins! A few frantic phones calls and four fantastic safety pins arrived in the nick of time. Number now firmly attached I was ready go. I wish I could describe the run step by step with perfect clarity. Unfortunately I can’t. All I really remember is thinking how nice it was to be up and running at such an early hour, the colour the sunrise was (pink) and the beeping of my watch whenever I dropped below 5:15 min/km. I was determined to try and finish my stage in less than one hour. On the last hill I sprinted as hard as I could, handed over the baton and looked at my watch. Too slow, maybe next year … Andrew Bolden |
