Monaco Half Ironman 2006

September 3rd 2006.

In September 2006 seven members of Tri-Anglia traveled down to the French Riviera to partake in the 2006 Monach Half Ironman.  The seven who competed were:  Simon Edye, Stewart Ingram, Carl Sherry, Andrew Walpole, Penny Edwards, Melvyn Waters and Mick Powell.

This is a very good race highly recommended. The race involves a two lap swim round the bay.  A seriously hard bike ride for which you really need to allow an extra 30 to 60 min on your normal average time.  It is very scenic, as the photo's from our reccee ride show.  However it wasn't that scenic for Andrew Walpole.  He came of on first decent, ouch, and spent the rest of the day in hospital.  Most of us were quite happy with our cycle.  The run takes you round the Grand Prix circuit  5 and a half times.  Oh, and there's a nice hill on every lap just incase the bike ride isn't hard enough.

As a club group we did ok.  Penny 2nd in age, Mick Powell 3rd and Carl Sherry also 3rd.  All three qualified for the  Hawaii Ironman 2007.  Penny & Carl excepted.  You have to enter there on the spot.  Simon Edye was looking to qualify but just not his day.
