National Relays - Nottingham
For those who don’t know it the National Relays are held at the National Watersports Centre at Holme Pierrepoint near Nottingham . 195 teams entered. The weather always seems to be hot, 30 degrees this year. The Relays are on the Saturday, Sunday offers a Sprint and Super Sprint Race for those who have any energy left. This year Tri Anglia was represented by a wiley, wizened group of Vets in the persons of Karl Sherry, Simon Edye, Glen Nelson , and Mick Powell . 9.30 start with Karl starting the team off with a 500meter swim in the 2 kilometre rowing lake, then out of the water, 50meter sprint to tag the next team member who dives into the water and repeats the process. Our fourth swimmer, Mick tagged Karl, who leapt upon his bike and set off for three 5 kilometre laps of the road round the lake. Enthusiastic cheers of the other team members and supporters watching from the Bleachers.Twelve furious laps later (3 each), Karl sets off for the first 5k run and with Glen Nelson running strongly a few places are made up. Not a podium place this year, but not to far off. Next year ……….Next year it would be a lot of fun to have some more teams and a few more people at the BBQ afterwards
