Tri-Anglia Tristar Race Reports

Ipswich Junior Triathlon – August 29th
Following on from their first race experience, 9 members of the Tri-Anglia Junior Section entered the Ipswich Junior Triathlon. Building on their experience from the first race and subsequent training sessions all athletes approached the race in a much more relaxed mood without the anxiety evident at the Rob McLean Tri. This did not however detract from proper preparation, as they all took the time to familiarise themselves with the course and get properly set up in transition.

All athletes again performed superbly and in particular were able to handle the pressures of transition with much more confidence and speed.

Significant improvements in performance were achieved by all athletes with everyone reducing their overall times from their first race, even when taking into account the shorter swim distances for some age groups. For some the level of improvement was quite substantial with Scarlett Douglas reducing her overall time by more than 9 minutes while her sister Tertia reduced her overall time by 5½ minutes. Most of the improvement came from improved performances in cycling and transition although several athletes including Jill Wright, Scarlett Douglas and Josh Page improved their times in all 3 disciplines.

Congratulations go to Hannah Edwards who achieved a 3rd place in the age 8 category, while posting the second fastest swim time and fastest bike time (on her BMX).  In the 9/10 age group, Jill Wright achieved 8th place with a consistent performance across all 3 disciplines, while for the boys Scott Edwards enjoyed the bike leg so much he ended up doing two laps instead of the required one, but still managed to finish 11th.

In the very competitive 11/12 age group, top 10 finishes were achieved by Anna Wasden (8th), Scarlett Douglas (10th) for the girls and Josh Page (7th) and Matthew Baker (8th) for the boys, while Lauren Baker proved to be a tough competitor in her first race. Once again good swim performances were put in by all athletes in this age group with Josh Page, Matthew Baker and Anna Wasden posting 3rd, 5th and 6th fastest swim times respectively.

In the 13/14 age group our sole representative was Tertia Douglas who again put in a solid performance across all 3 disciplines against a very good group of girls from Tri-Sport Epping who took the top 4 places.

Once again a good team spirit was evident on the day with all athletes in the club providing support and encouragement to others in the team, leading to improved performances all round. Congratulations to all those who took part.
